The mining makes sense since you elaborated further that he would go in the mines and learn from the miners, but the carpentry is not mentioned anywhere in the backstory (correct me if I'm wrong) from then on." is what you said. I actually do have parts of the story mentioning helping carpenters and starting to basically become a carpenter.
I also added a Personality paragraph and Appearance paragraph.
