To be completely honest, I feel lengthening years will do much more harm then good. I like watching the years go by, and adding numbers to my character sheet. I like that my character can age at a fast enough pace to really change and develop without me having to wait around and stay on the server for years just to see the effect.
So my big reason to be hesitant about this, is character development.. It just feels like doubling lengths will make it harder for my short attention span to keep up.
And to be completely honest? We have one man repairing town, maybe two at certain points. It is completely reasonable that eight years later he still isn't done.
And as a last point, I feel it would be too big a change to say all the already passed years were only half the time, a lot of RP has been based on the passage of time, and if a change is made, I would rather us just look forward on it, instead of changing months of role play already behind us.
