Backstory â
Robert was born on a small farm on the coast of the Main Continent. His family was quite typical, his father fair and just, his mother loving and kind. From a very early age, it was clear what Robert was going to do with his life, he was going to learn how to work the land, care for livestock, everything his parents had been doing. So he was raised this way, learning the ways of the farm he would live on for most of his life.
Being brought up during the Civil war, Robert constantly saw soldiers marching down the roads to other towns, unsure of what they were doing, or why, all he knew was that fighting was supposed to be an honorable job, although his Parents would surely never let him fight in a war, at least not anytime soon.
Working on the farm, Robert got used to hard labor, and came to enjoy it. He actually liked all of the normally boring chores he had. Plowing the feilds turned into a game, he'd see how fast he could finish work, or see how perfect he could make the lines.By the time Robert reached the age of 16, he was a fully fledged farmer. He had learned as much as he could about the crops he grew, and general upkeep of everything he owned. By this time, his father felt that he should learn another skill, one that the boy could eventually use if farming never worked out. Robertâs father began to teach his son carpentry. Robert loved it, and quickly grasped the basics. His regimen of farm work was eventually shortened, as he did work faster, so that he could have time to practice his woodworking. Heâd follow this work for the next couple of years, until he turned 18.
At this age, he had grown tired of the everyday farm work, and craved something more. Perhaps he would go away from home, and start his own life, his own farm, maybe even find a wife. Robertâs parents, always supportive of their son, allowed him to leave, only after he made the promise to come back some day. With this, he packed up his belongings, and set sail for the furthest place form home, the Forbidden Lands. He boarded a ship, the captain who owned the ship promised that he could take Robert to the most remote place he could, he had also said something about rumors going around about a path of beacons, and some sort of "promised land".
It took quite a while to reach the forbidden lands, Robert had taken the first boat he could to get there, and it was also full of travelers who wanted to escape the Main Continent, all with their own reasons. One couple was running from the war, a small family was looking for a place to stay, after their home had burned down in a raid. Eventually, the group of misfits reached the forbidden land, and quickly discovered a path of beacons, which they followed; hoping that at the end there might be a settlement of others who had ventured here.
It took longer than any of them had expected, the better part of a full year, before they reached a massive desert. With nowhere else to go, they wandered into the desert, hoping that the desert wasnât as big as it seemed. It was, and before Robert knew it, there were only a handful of people left, before they reached a welcoming oasis. The remaining of the group stayed here for some time, until one night, the worst possible thing happened. The group was attacked, by what seemed to be a mass gathering of Dusk, everyone scrambled, and Robert found himself running away by himself, eventually coming to a tree line, happy to be out of the desert, but at the same time sad, and worried, did the others make it? He could only hope.
