She uses a two handed longsword version of the tachi that curves near the tip. The weapon is lightweight but relatively long reaching. Designed to draw and strike quickly and keep the enemy away from the wielder.

Includes the diagnosis and treatment of a number of mental disorders, skills in therapy, and skills in conversation. Reiko has studied people most of her life, and her largest goal is helping others overcome their problems through conversation and therapy.

Reiko was born the second daughter of the noble Lord Hitoya in the nation of Sagaru, on the Twin Rivers island. Her mother was a gypsy traveler with flowing red hair and a winning smile that even the disciplined and wealthy noble Lord Hitoya couldn’t resist. Reiko and her sister Miyoki were often regarded as the most beautiful girls in the region. Being the second child, Reiko was largely ignored by her father and spent a larger portion of her time with her mother.
Reiko was raised with one purpose in mind, to match her quality as a noble woman with the beauty she was given by her mother so she could be married off to join two noble houses. Miyoki was raised for a far different purpose, the noble had no sons and with the distrust and tension growing between houses he wouldn’t trust a husband to one of his daughters with the entire estate, so Miyoki was raised to be a capable heir instead. Every day she trained in the standard warrior arts, and the mannerisms befitting a noble head of house. Reiko practiced the sword with her sister, but while Miyoki learned to lead Reiko was taught to do her hair or serve tea.
Miyoki’s instructor was not unkind to Reiko though, while training Miyoki in the standard ways of war she taught Reiko her own personal way of life. She called it Kaikodo, and it was an art of observing the flow of energy and understanding that everything in the world is connected. That every living thing has a life energy that affects every other living thing near it. She trained in the martial art that came with the philosophy, extensively. Practicing redirecting blows in ways that wouldn’t harm attackers, or disabling people using pressure points and joint locks instead of kicks and jabs. Because even an aggressor was part of the connected life energy. She even learned to use a tessen, or war fan, as an extension of her practice, a weapon known for disarming and disabling opponents, without bringing serious harm.
She spent all the extra time granted her by her father’s ignorance devoting her life to understanding the energy and disciplining her body and mind through constant practice. And in time she grew interested in the people that the energy affects as well, spending all the time she should have used learning arts and mannerisms that would get her married, on reading foreign books on psychology and the mind, trying to understand people and how to help them without disrupting the energy. Her father was not happy with the practice at all; his daughter would bring the family honor by marrying, not pursuing some pointless religion and disgracing him with talks of extending peace to his enemies.
Eventually Reiko’s father forced her to take on elective activities befitting of her noble blood. She spent most of this time singing, dancing, and preparing tea, the only options she actually enjoyed.. But she was always finding new and creative ways to sneak time for reading psychology books and studying the people around her. Eventually it was discovered that she had a talent for talking to people and helping them overcome problems after she helped a number of the castle servants, and people began offering her father tributes for some of his second daughter’s time. He no longer thought her skill so useless. He demanded she practice the sword and her singing at least once a day.. But with the rest of her time she was free to meditate on her religion and practice her talents as a counselor.
Her reputation grew and the number of her suitors grew with it. Eventually a man named Geruka; a noble her father approved of, asked a marriage to be arranged. Reiko did not agree. She had helped him before but she was not in love. The marriage was arranged against her will. Her mother helped her arrange a plan to escape the castle before the ceremony, but Geruka found out and caught her. Reiko tried everything she could to get past him peacefully but he was very persistent. The conflict grew into a fight that lasted for a very long time as their mutual will to not harm each other was tested. Eventually Reiko broke first, taking his arm off with a blow from her sword and escaping with her youngest servant and taking up her mother’s maiden name to avoid detection.
Geruka was less then pleased. He put a bounty on Reiko, and her father tripled it. She was now the second most wanted person in the nation. Bounty hunters of all classes came after her. At first she did her best to try and hide. When that failed, she tried to not injure her enemies. And when that failed.. She began to kill the people who came after her. She started losing sleep and having fits of depression. Constantly fighting insomnia as the killing continued to haunt her. She started to tell herself that a life bound to a man she did not love was a small price to pay to avoid killing.. But the young servant that traveled with her always was able to convince her to keep going. That if they could just make it out of the Twin Rivers it could all stop.
The young servant quickly became Reiko’s best friend. Whenever Reiko’s insomnia forced her to stop traveling, her friend was there to help her hide and get back to health. They traveled together for several months before they met a man on the road, another fugitive. Before long the two fugitives realized they could help each other, so they traveled together. The two girls grew to become friends with the other fugitive during their travels but shortly before they could all make it to the port and escape the Twin Rivers together they were ambushed by bounty hunters. Reiko’s servant friend perished, unleashing a brutal attack from Reiko that took the lives of a number of the rogues. The battle did not take long with both of the skilled fugitives fighting. But Reiko had never had to lose a friend before and this was traumatizing.
They finally managed to escape the Twin Rivers and make it to a ship bound for the forbidden lands. Reiko was very depressed over the loss of her best friend. The only one to comfort her was the other fugitive, and though they grew close after a few weeks of travel she decided she needed to be alone. The two split up. The other fugitive moved on and she stayed in their camp to mourn her losses and collect her thoughts. It took her a long time to finish and regain her calm. After she finished her mourning she packed up and started following in the direction her remaining companion had gone. It took her a while to find him, but eventually she did. In Ravenna.
