Your Character Biography:
Name:
Nekhii Khan
Age:
23
Appearance:
When Clean, fresh out the bath!
She has a strong build, with an appearance that is akin to a real life Asian Mongolian woman. She keeps herself relatively clean and often wears light amounts of perfumes to mask any odor she might have as well as she can, which if she hasn't been doing any work is usually non existent. She wears a fitting tunic with a leather belt to hold various things, pouches, her weapon, etc. On her left hip she has a mongolian style sword, a slight curve to it. She stands at about five feet nine inches tall. She has very long hair, which is clipped together with several golden hairbands to hold the single braid that runs straight down her back to her upper thighs. It's black and kept as clean as she can manage. She's not particularly curvy, but she's not a box either. She makes sure to eat as much as she can, within reason and good health, to keep herself looking healthy. She's strong, and toned. She has a defined "six pack", and her arms are especially toned and muscled. Not to the point of being grotesque like some body builder, but it's obvious her work involves them heavily. She often wears chain mail under her tunic for protection of that area, as well. She has hazel, almost orange eyes.
During/After working!
Her hair would be tucked into her tunic to keep out of the way of her work depending on what it is, though she likes to wear it out as much as possible as it's more comfortable for her. She can get quite dirty, smudges all over her hands and face quite often from what she does. Otherwise it's generally the same.
Formal Wear!
As if. She isn't one for fancy clothing, mostly because she can't make it. She'd more often than not rather wear a simple dress that's not too flashy. However, she loves jewelry. She's taken to making her own out of spare metals. She's fond of bracelets and armbands, often made out of gold or silver. She'll often wear extra perfume, though not a whole lot, than usual.
General Personality:
Nekhii is a fairly shy woman. She doesn't talk a whole lot unless she needs to or perhaps is loosened up with alcohol or a particularly good day. There's never been a real reason that anyone can pinpoint for this shyness, it's simply a fact. Nekhii is shy. An introvert. If someone gets to know her and she likes them she will be more open and potentially excitable around them, but otherwise is fairly shy.
In her mind the reason she's shy is that she's just not that good at talking, and is afraid of messing her sentences up and making a fool of herself. She's prone to blushing when such things happen, and they do often. Depending on her mood she might have a stutter and might talk as quietly as a whisper at times, mumbling much of what she says.
She isn't very trusting of men, as she's been taken advantage of before. It's far more likely for her to choose someone rather than be chosen. She's shy, yes, but blunt as well. She's learned that the more she tries to beat around the bush with any subject, the more she'll have to talk - which in an ordinary day would rather not. As a result of this, she focuses on not looking pretty for men, but pretty for herself. She would rather be strong, fit, and what not then have a perfect figure with flawless skin.
She is very disciplined, which may have been a secondary cause for her unwillingness to speak often, harshly as a child. For everything she did wrong she would be punished twice as much as one would think necessary. Often times these "wrong doings" were quite objective. As a result she has impeccable table manners, and manners in general, great respect for those visibly older than her as a default, though if she finds reason to believe she's misplaced that respect she will waste no time taking it back, and an all around "orderly" demeanor.
She's not a snob in the slightest, however. There was one thing that was hard pressed to be beaten out of her, and that was her generosity and kindness. If someone is starving she'll gladly go without a meal to give them one. She's tried to smuggle countless animals into her family home that were stray, and even harbored a homeless old man before.
The only time she'll break her demeanor is if she's embarrassed enough. She'll withdraw at that point, like many other people, and try to get out of the situation as quickly as possible if she could find a way to excuse herself.
Other than her speech, she can be quite aggressive over some things. Things such as family, friends, her property, her work (work is for work! Play time is for play!), and of course, her food. She can be like a territorial dog at times, especially when it comes to food. A few choice stuttered words and a venomous glare would leave most people surprised at how intimidating she can be, until they remember that she's not exactly weak or small.
Backstory:
The infant didn't cry when she was born, she simply coughed and spluttered, before making an expression of great displeasure at her situation, covered in the sticky blood and goo of her mother's womb. "Nekhii", was what her parents named her. It was the word that was also used to describe sheepskin. Her first years of childhood would be much like any other child in the group of mongoloid vagrants.
Her entire childhood revolved around teaching her how to do certain things. She was trained to do many different things that leaked into many different skill sets of many different professions, though never really understood much beyond that in most of them. These things were things such as cooking food so that it's edible, sewing, and so on and so forth. Every person in the nomadic group would grow to be very versatile and know how to do many things, but be good at very few of them, by the age of twenty, and so she did.
She would learn sewing first, and shortly after cooking. This started at the age of four. At eight years old she was taught, roughly, how to fight with simple bladed weapons or with fists. She was not taught techniques or anything. She was taught to fight dirty. Do whatever it takes to win. She was better than most children her age at all these things, even if by only a little. Her lack of social life contributed to this. Even the sparring never led to much. Just moving onto the next task.
The civil war, and most of the current events throughout her life for that matter, didn't really affect her that much because they were always on the move. They never stayed in one place for very long. They set up a large camp, at it's peak holding three hundred people, and exhausted all the nearby resources over the upcoming months before moving on. They left nothing behind, they wasted nothing. To waste was immoral. It was a crime, punishable by lashing.
The children of the group didn't fuss about not wanting to eat their greens more than once or twice before they got the message.
Nekhii was easily excitable as a child, and was always passionate about the things she was most interested in or thought strongly of. This was not a favorable quality in a child for these people. They wanted obedience and efficiency. This sort of personality could easily be derailed from the course the group wanted and felt they needed for each person, and could cause issues. Children were highly disciplined. Some things that many would considered normal were beaten out of children as early as possible. Nekhii learned quickly not to talk back to authority or go against it. Even glaring at the parents, sulking, and so on were heavily punished. One could imagine how furiously welted she was after her parents found out she was hanging around with the wasters.
She never understood why she was so caring for these people, often giving them and their pets any food she could spare. Her parents and elders caught wind of this, and for reasons Nekhii didn't understand, she was punished for it. However, her empathy stood strong and would not be beat out of her. She simply had to be more discreet. She kept them company still, as that was not disallowed. Feeding them was. She wasn't aware what their crimes were, but if she would have asked properly instead of simply remaining quiet while the elders reprimanded her, she would have learned they used to waste, repeatedly.
This would have confused her greatly, since they never wasted a single morsel of the food she brought them, nor the occasional clothing or blankets she patched together haphazardly with her limited skills.
They found her at it time and time again, however, and eventually she only did such things on rare occasions, terrified someone might see her and punish her for it. The meetings became shorter, but also more looked forward to.
This sort of lifestyle left very little time for socializing other than on their free time. Even then, it took longer for Nekhii to be beaten quiet than most other children. Any time she did find herself with a chance to socialize or play, most children thought her odd and strange, and she felt the same towards them. When she was about ten years old she became much like those children were outwardly. Quiet, obedient, so on and so forth. However, on the inside it was a different matter.
Nekhii was conflicted with her opinions and feelings. It seemed her brain was wired a bit differently. At first, for a year or so, there was no issue. She thought that, as it was said, the beatings were "tough love". However, she saw no love in her parents eyes.
"I never nu it befor but mommy and daddy not reelee seem to liek me that much. I sayd this to them but they no lisen! I kept asking and they just hit me and sayd for me to keep kwyit. We are bizee they sayd.
She eventually took it upon herself to investigate. Did other parents act like this to their children? She watched, when she had her rare free time, to see just that. Few of the other children seemed to have any misgivings towards their parents, or likewise. They seemed to be relatively happy, but quiet. She wondered why she was different. Did she not impress her parents enough? No, she tried her best with everything she did. She did what she was told, for the most part.
The truth was, her parents never wanted her in the first place. She was very much an accident, and an unwanted one at that. They even detested her. She was different, and they could tell. Not radically so, but they knew she wasn't like the other. Even though she was eventually beaten into submission like other children, she would occasionally slip up. More often than most.
Of course, she couldn't understand these things. All she was sure of is her parents didn't love her, but other parents loved their children even though they were quick to punish them if they messed up. This lessened her parents hold over her mindset. She didn't trust them anymore. Worse yet, the authority figures in her life, such as the elders, were pleased with how "well Nekhii is disciplined!". Her trust broke for them, as well. But she never showed it outwardly. She let it fester, year after year of her life.
When she was sixteen she found that she had started to become more womanly in figure. This attracted men and boys alike who would want to woo her. She was overwhelmed with it all. By the time she was about eighteen she had "made love" with three different men, each one essentially using her and wearing away her tolerance for men in general. After the third man stopped associating himself with her, she was distraught. In their group it wasn't unusual for women and men alike to be prolific. It wasn't even frowned upon. Sex was recognized as a normal thing. No religion told them otherwise. However, she wasn't just looking for sex with those men, but she was hoping for something more, and each of them betrayed her trust and smashed these hopes. Until the "third strike" she had hope that "this will be the one!". She wanted affection, badly. She had gotten none from her parents, and had no social life. These three men, she would never learn, were friends together. They, like many of the people her age, knew she was vulnerable. She was lonely, bitterly lonely. She was easy prey, and so as if she was a wounded animal they went in for the kill, and left the remains for the next one.
Perhaps she would have laughed a little bit if she had one day found out that there was a fourth boy waiting in line for his turn that would never get it, who was then mocked by the other three. However, she would never find out about the shallow plot. They objectify her, and now she sort of objectifies any other man that she finds attractive, though she hasn't acted on it since the third man. She simply admires the "view" from time to time, and doesn't really try to hide it unless she's called out.
Around the same time she started becoming more interested in men she started to learn how to ride horses, groom horses, and many other things relating to basic horse care. After a year or so of training she started participating in the transportation of the caravan's that made up the vagrant group. She would have dozens of supplies and tents pulled behind her and her horse in a wagon, and often times women and children as well. She learned how to load a wagon effectively, and ride a horse while pulling a load behind her with it.
Life more or less just went on for Nekhii at that point. She moved from her parents when she was twenty. She helped the needy even less, but not because she grew less compassionate. She had responsibilities now, combined with her fears of punishment, as she was considered a mature adult. They were all fairly mundane, but essential. One day she could be cooking, while the next she'd be sewing and repairing crude clothing and such.
Years went on like this, and she started to become even more opinionated. The years of emotional pain she was put through eventually caused her semi-questioning thoughts to switch to outright accusing. She would never voice this to anyone but herself, but she disagreed with a lot of the ridiculously strict morals that were shoved down her throat for years, and decided she was going to do everything she could to get out of that place. Due to her issues with men she felt no need to look all that pretty, and decided she would rather like to look at herself in the mirror than get other people to like to look at her. She became very physically fit. She remained with an hour glass figure, but became much tougher than most of the women her age, and thus warded most of the men off. Any man who took an interest in her was too nervous to make any move on her, and so she was alone in the regard.
With her physique in mind she started to plan for a journey away from the mainland. She planned for packing healthy foods that could be preserved, and clothes that would serve as decent protection from the elements and not be too bulky. Convenient, as well, as hushed words of the Xitian's portal reopening met her ears. The group were distrustful of Xitians. While some people considered them monsters and depicted them as such, this nomadic group did not. There were monsters that lurked the night and the day, that was for certain. Massive man eating spiders, the walking dead, the void walkers, the bone-men, but these were easy enough to deal with. Xitians, however, were people much like themselves. Dangerous people who have earned a reputation of distrust world wide by rumor alone, at least as far as the nomads were concerned.
When they moved for the final time, she aided as usual, and then left her people. She was never very social, and the only people sad to see her go were the wasters, but life would go on as usual in the group, and she would be mostly forgotten, and her parents relieved to be rid of her.
Her journeys from that point were lackluster at best. She saw the aftermath of what the civil war had done to various cities and towns, and saw the tension. She heard the news of the portal reopening, but none of this concerned her much. Though, she did decide that she'd rather be safe than sorry and get herself as far away from another possible Xitian war as possible. She took a ship to the forbidden lands, and would wander around until she found that a town named Alroc was on the horizon. Tired from her travels, and somewhat hungry, she makes her way to the town, hoping it's not another empty shell of a town like some of the other settlements she found along the way.
Specify your character's skills:
Horse care - Competent. She knows how to groom, shoe, and feed a horse. She also knows a horses limits, depending on the breed and if she has any experience with it, and will take care not to push it passed those limits if she doesn't have to. She can't breed horses, however, and is definitely not a veterinarian.
Horseback Riding - Competent. She has helped travel in caravans and transport wagons and such, and can ride effectively on her own as well. She knows how to hitch a horse to a wagon, pack the wagon, ride safely so that those in the wagon and the objects aren't toppled over or anything, etc.
Cooking - Novice, Maybe less than Novice. Can cook to an edible level, and sometimes it tastes pretty decent too! Sometimes...
Sewing/patchwork - Novice. She can fix and patch up clothing, and put together some of the ugliest clothing and blankets you've ever seen in your life - but she makes sure they're effective all the same. She's done this over the course of her entire life, but has largely done this and ONLY this, ie the things that were listed. Anything she makes with sewing is either a patch job, or very shoddy clothing that will likely not last very long depending on the condition it's kept in. It'd be notable that after learning how to make specific things she's didn't feel the need to strive to go farther with or improve this skill.
Sword/bladed weaponry combat - Novice. She has done spars with other people who are inexperienced before, and can hold her own against unskilled opponents. With the right amount of luck and instinct, she knows how to swing the sword around, sheathe it, and also where to poke the pointy end. More often than not she'd be better off running or calling for help, though.
Reading/writing - She doesn't know how to read or write much better than a twelve year old might be able to. Her writing looks like chicken scratch if the chicken was doing the stanky leg dance, never mind her spelling and grammar.
Do your character bring anything to the setting (part from clothes)?
Actually she comes naked. Clothes are overrat- okay okay fine..
She brings a machete with her as protection.
A bag of misc STUFF. Lots of beef jerky.
A tent. Sure, she /could/ build something, but setting up a tent is way easier...She would likely make this her home and plant the thing in the worst spots imaginable, or maybe on the outskirts of Alroc. ((Mcly this could just be a bunch of wool died ugly colors (home made :3), some fence posts, a bed for a bedroll, and a chest or something.))
POTENTIALLY A HORSE. I'm not sure if that would be allowed, but if at all possible she would bring a horse with her for transportation and what not.
Anything you'd like to add:
Well that took a while.

Well that took a while.
