So this has been bothering me a bit. People arguing that religion shouldn't be a big deal in the Mesalian setting. Personally, I found this argument, well, ridiculous to say the least. Why do I say this? Well, the main reason is that the Pilgrims are on a religious pilgrimage! Yes I understand that religion, apparently, wasn't a /huge/ part of the common medieval man/woman, but it was a part of it. Historically, if religion didn't completely control a Medieval person's life it at least affected them in some way. They would regularly pray or at the very least acknowledge their religion. If one did not do this, they were branded as a heretic and non-believer.
The fact that their is a lack of religion in a religious pilgrimage setting just seems... Off. It doesn't make sense and I feel as though a huge part of this may be ooc influence of personal religious views. I'm not saying that is the case for everyone, but I'm sure it is the case for a few people.
To go on, yes I understand how people will still bring up how their characters simply do not believe in the gods or do not worship. Please take into account, as I've said many times, that they /are/ on a religious pilgrimage. If they came into this setting not believing in the Gods, more than likely being believing. I'm not saying they will, I'm just saying take into account the huge influences put on them by the end of this linear storyline.
One last point, more of a disclaimer, I am not telling anyone what they should do with their characters. I'm just bringing up a point for everyone to consider. The characters are all on a religious pilgrimage together. The characters even act 'modern', which annoys me most of all. Okay, maybe your character acts like that, that's fine. But when every single character is 'unique' and desires to not be religious in the religious setting, it takes away from the experience in my personal opinion. Even if you decide to have your character not be religious, the fact that they continue to bash the religious views would, according to history, cast them out of society. Just a point for everyone to consider and discuss.
